Nonlinear nanomechanical resonators approaching the quantum ground state

چکیده
Abstract It is an open question whether mechanical resonators can be made nonlinear with vibrations approaching the quantum ground state. This requires engineering of a nonlinearity far beyond what has been realized so far. Here we discover mechanism to boost Duffing by coupling nanotube resonator single-electron tunnelling and operating system in ultrastrong-coupling regime. We find that thermal become highly when lowering temperature. The average vibration amplitude at lowest temperature 13 times zero-point motion, approximately 42% energy stored anharmonic part potential. Our work may enable realization Schrödinger cat states, qubits simulators emulating electron–phonon coupling.

متن کاملApproaching the quantum limit of a nanomechanical resonator.
By coupling a single-electron transistor to a high-quality factor, 19.7-megahertz nanomechanical resonator, we demonstrate position detection approaching that set by the Heisenberg uncertainty principle limit. At millikelvin temperatures, position resolution a factor of 4.3 above the quantum limit is achieved and demonstrates the near-ideal performance of the single-electron transistor as a lin...

Here we discuss the annealing behavior of an infinite-range ±J Ising spin glass in presence of a transverse field using a zero-temperature quantum Monte Carlo. Within the simulation scheme, we demonstrate that quantum annealing not only helps finding the ground state of a classical spin glass, but can also help simulating the ground state of a quantum spin glass, in particularly, when the trans...
متن کاملArbitrary distribution and nonlinear modal interaction in coupled nanomechanical resonators
We propose a general one-dimensional continuous formulation to analyze the vibrational modes of antennalike nanomechanical resonators consisting of two symmetric arrays of cantilevers affixed to a central nanobeam. The cantilever arrays can have arbitrary density and length profile along the beam. We obtain the secular equation that allows for the determination of their frequency spectrum and i...
